Inspiration can come from many places: it can come from traditions developed thousands of miles away and thousands of years ago; it can come from movies with dialogue that we don't understand; and it can come from within. But what's important is where inspiration takes us.
Whether it's safe-haven community centers, world-class competitions, inner-city dojos, or kung fu cinema, the martial arts have been an integral part of the culture, influence and aspirations of urban America for decades. Blvd. Warriors tells the little-known story of how Asian fighting arts and the films that feature them, pierced the lives of a segment of America that has struggled with a variety of issues, such as societal exclusion, and a lack of their own heroes.
Through a series of interviews, movie clips and historical documents, the documentary will track a history that evolved from a combination of natural ability, the desire for change, and basic human instinct. The need for power, hope, identity, haphazard entertainment, friendship and respect triggered a confluence of events that have lead to a standard in American culture, transcending race, politics, cultural stereotypes - and in some cases - the very limits of human endurance. Blvd. Warriors shines a spotlight on experts of the martial arts, as well as trailblazing entertainers, pop culture references, and everyday people whose lives have been permanently impacted through their exposure to, and respect of, this unique way of life.
